Arthur Grady Day

Arthur Grady Day celebrates Fremantle bicycle maker, Arthur Grady, the first man to ride around Australia on a motorcycle in 1924.  Each year the Kings Square event grows, this year including some cars, perambulators and old hand tools.

Motorcycle names such as Francis Barnett (Production has just begun on new retro Francis Barnett bikes), Matchless, Panther (made very near to where I was born in Cleckheaton) Douglas and Velocette take me back to my teens.  There was also a large showing of more familiar names such as Harley Davidson, Indian, Triumph, BSA, Norton and Moto Guzzi.  This year there were also scooters, including an interesting Henkel.
