Labor voices support for WA Local Government

Guest speaker at today’s WALGA’s AGM, Mark McGowan was very clear in his support for Local Government and stated supports Constitutional recognition of local government and had written to the Prime Minister saying as much.  He stated he does not support forced amalgamation as expected to be introduced by a Liberal/National government if they are re-elected next year.  It looks like Labor may be going to make an election issue out of this issue.  Meanwhile John Castrilli on behalf of the Premier said the experts panel report had been given to him, but he could not reveal any of the recommendations until it had been presented to cabinet.  Metropolitan local governments eagerly await the report.
