Australia Day in Fremantle

As temperatures soared to 40* last Thursday a healthy gathering sat under a welcome shade tent to witness the swearing-in of new citizens on Fremantle’s Esplanade park, Congratulations to all of you, I hope you have a great life in Australia.

Australia Day also hosted announcement of the Premier’s Active Citizen of the Year Awards.  This year it became a personal event as my partner, Cathy Hall was awarded the Fremantle’s Active Citizen of the year, she is so proud!  Also presented were Lacky Ritchie as Fremantle’s Young Active Citizen of the Year and the North Fremantle Community Arts Development Inc (NoFCAD) as the Community Group of the Year.

After the formalities the crowd were treated to live entertainment and of course the ubiquitous Ozzie sausage sizzle.

As the clouds rolled in people found their viewing place for the fireworks of the Indian Ocean Skyshow, a multi-party show joined by our near coastal neighbour Cockburn.   It was a spectacular show with the big banger displays showering over head and many erupting at lower levels to take advantage of the Bathers Beach location.  The show culminated in a spectacular finale of light and sound.
