NAIDOC 2011 Opens

Sunday saw the opening of NAIDOC week in Fremantle.  A ceremony to celebrate it was held on the grass next to the Round House, a building with sad memories for many Noongars.  A welcome to country was given by Curtin Academic Len Collard culminating in Len giving Cr Sam Wainwright a message stick to take back to council.  Sam gave one of the best speeches I have heard, it was poignant and from the heart, thanks Sam and thanks Len.

There was a flag raising ceremony, dancing and very popular sausage sizzle.  Apparently Council also organised a break in the weather so we got some sunshine.
