On Thursday evening I was honoured to accept the HCWA Heritage Award for ‘Outstanding contribution to heritage by a community based organisation’ on behalf of the Fremantle Society. This award recognises the years of hard work put in by Society Members over the years. A special thanks goes to Pam Hartree who compiled and submitted the nomination, the win clearly reflects the quality of the application. This is an award the Society can be justly proud of, in aknowledgment of its work.
The awards night was held in the impressive Winthrop Hall at UWA. It was a great time for people involved in heritage to network with others in the industry and offer mutual support. The Chair of HCWA, Marion Fulkner and UWA VC Alan Robson gave opening addresses and Minister John Castrilli presented the awards. The Fremantle Society presented Minister Castrilli with a copy of Fighting For Fremantle.
Congratulations also go to Fremantle Ports and Fremantle Prison who also received awards, and to John Dowson, Alan Kelsall and the Fremantle Education Centre who were nominees. All in all a great event for Fremantle, The better we respect our heritage assets the more good publicity Fremantle will receive.
